University of San Diego defended its title at the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational yesterday, taking the top four places individually to cruise to a 30-shot victory at Puakea Golf Course in Líhu'e.

Hawai'i sophomore TJ Kua, who is from Kaua'i, finished fifth at 70—210, to help the Warriors place fourth. It was Kua's best collegiate finish and Hawai'i's best NCAA result since it was second at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

San Diego shot 9-under-par 279 yesterday and had a three-day total of 35-under 829. James Madison (286—859) was the only other team to break par in the 10-team field. Sacramento State (287—865) was next, followed by Hawai'i (296—869).

San Diego's Joseph Harrison took medalist honors at 69—205; he was not part of USD's five-man team. Punahou graduate Alex Ching, a USD sophomore, was next at 68—206.

Jared Sawada, another UH sophomore, tied for 25th at 80—220. Junior Kamden Brakel (71—222) was 28th, freshman Alex Chu (78—223) 31st and freshman Cory Oride (76—229) 41st.
