Honolulu chiropractor to trade sports equipment for Halloween candy

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu chiropractor Dr. Micaire Baxter is taking a unique approach to addressing childhood obesity in Hawai'i public schools by trading athletic equipment for Halloween candy.

On Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Baxter is opening her Global Health Chiropractic office at the Gold Bond Building (677 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 605)to children and families who wish to trade in their Halloween bounty for footballs, tennis rackets, lacrosse sticks, beach balls and other sports equipment, as determined by the weight of the candy exchanged.
Baxter said she was spurred by a 2008 state Department of Health report that stated that 15.6 percent of Hawai'i public school students are obese.
