You will find few things more frightening than Hawai'i's Haunted Plantation, unless you pick up that hitchhiker with the chainsaw and mask. Just pulling into the parking lot gets you in the mood for fright as echoes of terror surround you. High-pitched girly screeches and deep manly screams are drowned out amidst ghoulish cries and growling chainsaws — no one is spared the absolute fear that grows with each step through this maze of horrors. This year's obake theme is brought to terrifying life with Hollywood-quality makeup and an overall production as dedicated to pure fear as any good horror film. In fact, imagine the most frightening horror film you've ever seen, and as you quickly leave the plantation with your heart still racing, your breath still coming in pants and your knees so weak you can barely walk, you'll realize you've just lived through it.

Haunted Plantation: 7 to 11 p.m. tonight; $8; Hawaii Plantation Village, 94-695 Waipahu St.; 677-0110.
