3 from burning boat near Länai rescued

Crews aboard a fishing boat and a Pacific Whale Foundation vessel plucked three boaters from waters near Länai on Thursday afternoon after they abandoned their burning fishing boat, the Maui News reported.

The rescued boaters had been participating in a women's Lahaina fishing tournament. The boat's captain told Lahaina Harbor officials that a woman aboard the boat suffered some scratches, but two men who also had been on the boat were not seriously injured.

MISSING MAUNA LOA HIKER FOUND SAFE

A 43-year-old Norwegian woman who had been reported missing while hiking the Mauna Loa summit crater Wednesday was found in good health Thursday afternoon, West Hawaii Today reported.

Responding to a 10:02 p.m. report of a missing hiker, firefighters with the Kaumana, Central and Waiäkea fire stations concluded the woman became separated from her husband after he sat down to rest and she continued to hike the volcano's summit.
