LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have signed defensive back Rod Hood to a one-year contract, adding depth to a dinged-up secondary.

The Bears announced the move on Tuesday, one day after the Cleveland Browns released him. Hood made 14 starts last season for the Arizona Cardinals and started in the Super Bowl before getting cut in April. He signed with Cleveland in May and had been rotating at cornerback, but he was beaten on a touchdown pass in Saturday night’s win over Tennessee.
Chicago has been short-handed in the secondary during the preseason, with cornerback Charles Tillman recovering from offseason back surgery, and cornerback Zackary Bowman and safety Danieal Manning nursing hamstring injuries. Each has missed the first three preseason games.
The Bears also released receiver Derek Kinder, a seventh-round draft pick out of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday.
