Police are investigating a report that a 3-year-old girl may have been sexually assaulted over the weekend in the Punchbowl area by a 36-year-old man.

Police said the girl told her mother of the possibility of being sexually assaulted Friday, Saturday or Sunday night between 7 and 9 p.m.
Police tentatively classified the case as first-degree sexual assault.
A suspect was arrested in the case but was later released without charges pending further investigation.
