The Gas Company has promoted longtime executive Thomas K. L. M. Young to the post of senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Young, a 28-year veteran with the company, will oversee the utility’s operations on all of the Hawaiian Islands and will be responsible for an initiative to produce half of the company’s gas from renewable sources within five years.
Young joined The Gas Company in 1981 as an assistant chemist. in 1990 he was promoted to plant manager responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company’s 16.7 million-cubic-foot-capacity synthetic natural gas manufacturing plant in Campbell Industrial Park.
In 1998 he assumed responsibility for Oahu-based operations, and in 2008 he became senior vice president of operations statewide, including manufacturing, distribution, sales, compliance and project management.
