Big Island police identify pedestrian killed in North Kona

HILO — Hawaii County police have identified a pedestrian who died Friday after being hit by a car at a North Kona intersection.

Police say Adatchie Eaton, 56, of Kealakekua, was walking north on the mauka shoulder of Highway 190 when he was hit from behind by a north-bound Honda sedan that had drifted onto the shoulder.
Eaton was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.
Police have ordered an autopsy opened a negligent homicide investigation against the driver of the Honda, 58-year-old Thomas Orton of Kealakekua.
