Council panel defers 'body odor' bill

Advertiser Staff

A bill barring bad odor and including a host of other prohibitions on buses and transit passengers was deferred by the City Council's Transportation Committee this morning.

Police and city attorneys voiced concerns about constitutionality with the so-called "odor ban" as well as other prohibitions.
About half a dozen passengers who testified were split on the issue. Some said they supported the ordinance while others raised objections.
Councilman Nestor Garcia, one of the introducers of the bill, said he will rework the measure with interested parties to address concerns raised in coming up with another bill.
