DLNR, Coast Guard to keep eyes on Labor Day boaters

Advertiser Staff

The state again will monitor boating safety in Kane'ohe Bay and provide services at He'eia Kea Small Boat Harbor over the Labor Day weekend.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard will increase their presence in the bay and enforce boating rules including for safety equipment, zone violations and operating a boat while intoxicated.

DLNR staff also will provide boating information, loaner vests for keiki and whistles to boaters.

On Sunday and Monday, DLNR staff members will be at He'eia Kea Small Boat Harbor to re-register vessels, provide replacement registration cards and issue ramp stickers.

However new registration and transfers of ownership still will need to be done at the DLNR's Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation's main office, 333 Queen St., Suite 300.

Boaters are reminded to not play music at an excessively high volume and to be courteous to one another.

Fines for violations of safety equipment and zone violations range from $50 to $1,000.
