NFL: Super Bowl hero David Tyree cut by New York Giants

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Super Bowl hero David Tyree has been released by the New York Giants.

Mark Clouser, who along with his brother Michael represents Tyree, confirmed the move on Saturday.

Tyree made one of the most remarkable catches in Super Bowl history some 19 months ago when the Giants defeated the previously unbeaten New England Patriots.

With the Giants trailing 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, Tyree hauled in a 32-yard pass from Eli Manning, literally pinning the ball against his helmet as defender Rodney Harrison yanked him to the ground. It set up Manning's game-winning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress.

Tyree battled injuries in training camp.
