HONOLULU – Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the Hawai‘i state flag at all state and county buildings to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset tomorrow in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The governor’s proclamation also encourages Hawai‘i residents to display the state flag at half-staff at their homes and businesses in observance of this day of remembrance.

In honor of the brave heroes of Sept. 11, the Americans who united to help the victims and the service men and women who continue to protect our nation, Lingle also encourages Hawai‘i residents to participate in community service.

The governor’s action is in conjunction with a proclamation issued today by President Obama ordering that the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff tomorrow in memory of the victims. By a joint resolution approved on Dec. 18, 2001, the U.S. Congress designated Sept. 11 of each year as “Patriot Day.” This year, the president also declared Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
