CFB: Navy rushes past Louisiana Tech, 32-14

Associated Press

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Navy’s Marcus Curry ran for 124 yards and a score, Ricky Dobbs scored twice and Navy overcame a 14-point deficit to beat Louisiana Tech 32-14 on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech (0-2) scored on Daniel Porter’s 3-yard run to cap a 10-play, 74-yard opening drive, and went ahead 14-0 on Phillip Livas’ 85-yard punt return. After that, the Mids’ defense stiffened and Navy (1-1) scored 32 unanswered points over the final 56 minutes.
The comeback began with Joe Buckley’s field goal, followed by a 16-yard run by Cory Finnerty and a 3-yard run by Dobbs. The Midshipmen added two points when holder Greg Zingler ran with the snap and scored on a conversion, making it 18-14 at halftime.
The final two scores of the game came in the fourth quarter, with Curry going in from the 3 with 10:31 to play and Dobbs scoring from the 2 with 5:50 left.
Navy’s triple option offense held the ball for 41 minutes and rushed for 290 of its 393 total yards. Curry was the most-used Navy running back with 15 carries, while Dobbs rushed for 47 yards on 25 carries and completed 5 of 8 passes for 103 yards.
After their opening drive, the Bulldogs gained only 93 yards.
Louisiana Tech ran the ball 33 times in a 37-13 loss to Auburn last week, but abandoned the run against Navy, which racked up 23 first downs to the Bulldogs’ 10.
Ross Jenkins completed 6 of 7 passes on the opening drive and finished 18 of 29 for 156 yards. His only interception was a key play in the game, when Navy’s Jabaree Tuani grabbed the pass to set up Navy’s first touchdown.
