By Wayne Harada

SIGHT 'EMS: That was Marissa Jared Winokur, the "Dance Your Ass Off" reality TV show host, enjoying some Island R&R with husband Judah Miller at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. If you saw the original "Hairspray" on Broadway (I did), Winokur played Tracy Turnblad, the lead in the hilarious John Waters musical, earning a Tony Award for best actress in a musical. The couple caught Grammy nominee Peter Kater at the keyboards in the hotel's Mala Wailea Lounge. ...

Such as: Kanye West, Kid Kudi, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Rihanna, Dr. Dre, Eminem and T-Pain from the Mainland. And from Japan: Ayumi Hamasaki, B'z, MINMI, Exile and Namie Amuro. Kanye also did his "Amazing" video on the Big Island, said Holomalia; that tune was featured during the earlier NBA playoffs. With many of the studio clients staying at the Kahala Hotel & Resort, "they use the ocean sports services at the hotel and here in Hawai'i Kai, so hopefully we're helping the economy in a small way," Holomalia said. ...

HERE 'N' THERE: Amy Hanaiali'i's "Friends and Family of Hawaii" CD is off to a good start; the Mountain Apple Co. release charted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top World Albums list, No. 27 on the Top Heatseekers roster and No. 2 on the Top Heatseekers Pacific survey. ...

When Island mayors Mufi Hannemann (Honolulu), Bernard Carvalho (Kaua'i), Charmaine Tavares (Maui) and Billy Kenoi (Big Island) were on the "Hawai'i — 1,000 Reasons to Smile" visitor promotion tour of the West Coast, they paused at the W Hotel in Westwood, where Grammy-winning Hawai'i musicians George Kahumoku Jr. and Daniel Ho performed. Of course, the singing mayors — Hannemann, Tavares and Kenoi — chimed in. ...

ITEMIZATIONS: Michelle Rodriguez, who was Ana Lucia Cortez on "Lost" (but also made news for her off-camera driving misadventures here), could have found a looming blockbuster film: James Cameron's $200 million sci-fi opus, "Avatar," due in December. ...

Richard Natto, leader of the Society of Seven LV group at the Outrigger Waikiki's Main Showoom, has released his new CD, "Let's Make Music," online at www.richardnatto.com. New tunes are intermixed with previous releases, with some titles previously only released in Japan. Natto also gigs with Mike Chung as an acoustic duo and still maintains ties with Dave Toma, the duo known as Toma/Natto. ...

NIGHT MUSIC: Sunset Street, the duo featuring George Street's Gordon Kim and Gail Mack, will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. this Thursday and every third Thursday of the month, at the Honolulu Club lounge. ...

Alex Min, a singer-guitarist-songwriter, is sort of a next-gen George Street musician. He's the son of Steve Min, of the original aforementioned band, and Alex — partnering with classmate Brennan Miyasaki (they're seniors at 'Iolani School) — performed last night at Anna Bannana's. The duo is produced by Nemesis Entertainment and certainly is an act to watch for. ...

Kani Ka Pila Grille, at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, has added Sean Na'auao to the Monday night slot, and Ledward Ka'apana on select Saturday nights while Manoa DNA tours Japan. ...

And that's Show Biz. ...
