Advertiser loses Internet access for 2 hours

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Advertiser and three other local businesses were without Internet access for about two hours today due to an equipment issue emanating from service provider Hawaiian Telcom.

Ann Nishida-Fry, Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman, said the outage lasted from about 11:45 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. She said all four businesses were connected to the same router that experienced a malfunctioning ethernet card.

The Advertiser's Web site was operating throughout the period, although breaking news updates were more sporadic than usual as newsroom staff used only a few laptops to connect.

In an unrelated incident, electricity was out at the Chaminade University-St. Louis School campus in Kaimuki from about 12 to 1:30 p.m. Chaminade spokeswoman Kapono Ryan said the source of the outage was a mongoose that had gotten into a transformer box.
