Man arrested in assault of police officers

Advertiser Staff

A 39-year-old man was arrested this morning after police said a man stole a truck and later assaulted two police officers who were attempting to arrest him.

Brad T. Brazeal, who gave no local address, was booked on two counts of first-degree assault of a police officer, two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, breaking into a vehicle, theft, and resisting arrest. He remained in police custody pending charges.
At about 7:30 this morning, a witness told police that a man had stolen a truck in Kakaako and drove the vehicle for about a block. The man then got out of the truck and attempted to steal another vehicle, police said.
Unable to do so, the man fled on foot, police said. Officers found the suspect in a business on Waimanu Street and attempted to arrest him.
But police said the man resisted, attempted to grab an officer’s gun from its holster, and then hit two officers with a wooden table leg. The officers were able to subdue the man and arrest him.
During a search of the man, police said they recovered two stolen credit cards. The suspect and the two officers were treated for their injuries.
