Jesse Mahelona services are Sept. 26 at Kealakehe

Services for former pro football player Jesse Steven Kahuanani Mahelona will be Sept. 26 at his alma mater, Kealakehe High School on the Big Island.

Mahelona, of Kealakehe, died Sept. 5 in a one-car crash on Kealakehe Parkway. He was 26.

Mahelona, a defensive tackle, played at the University of Tennessee, then for Tennessee, Miami and Atlanta in a two-year NFL career that ended in 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Brandee Kukita-Mahelona; daughter, Karter; parents, Steven and Laurie; brothers, Steven and Sam; sisters, Brittney and Stephanie; grandparents, Barbara Palmer, Charles Perkins, Isaac and Lovena; great-grandmother, Agnes Kelii.

Visitation is 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Kealakehe High School gymnasium; celebration of life service 4 p.m. No flowers. Casual attire. Condolences to Brandee Kukita Mahelona, P.O. Box 1004, Kealakekua, HI 96750. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawai'i, Kailua, Kona.
