Bacalso reaches fourth round

Advertiser Staff

Kekoa Bacalso of Mililani advanced to the fourth round of the Hurley Pro Trestles men's surfing contest yesterday.

The third round was completed in 1- to 3-foot waves at Lower Trestles, Calif.

Bacalso defeated Australia's Chris Davidson, 12.5-10.46. Bacalso rode just three waves in the 30-minute heat, and his two best waves received scores of 7.17 and 5.33.

Davidson caught eight waves, but his two best scores were 5.33 and 5.13. Only the two best waves for each surfer count toward the final score.

Bacalso is scheduled to face nine-time world champion Kelly Slater of Florida in the fourth round.

Kaua'i's Roy Powers advanced to the fourth round on Monday. Bacalso and Powers are the only Hawai'i surfers remaining in the competition.

The contest is the sixth of 10 stops on the 2009 ASP World Tour.
