Advertiser Staff

About 10,000 runners will participate in Sunday’s 10th annual Nike 5K For Kids Run in Waikiki.

The event, which starts and ends at Fort DeRussy Park, features a 5K run at 7 a.m. and one-mile walk at 8 a.m with presentation of school awards and age group awards at 8:30 a.m.
As in past years, 100 percent of the entry fees will be donated to O‘ahu schools for athletic programs and playground equipment. The event has raised more than $890,000 for participating schools over the last nine years.
Runners are encouraged to use the free shuttle transportation that will be provided from Kapiolani Park on Monsarrat to Niketown from 5:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
Motorists are advised to avoid Kalakaua avenue from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Hotels and area business have been alerted that the route will follow the standard parade route, from Fort DeRussy Park extended to Dillingham Fountain.
