Autopsy finds woman died of overdose of drugs, alcohol

Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old Kaua'i woman whose body was found outside her apartment in Puhi on Aug. 17 died of an overdose of prescribed drugs and alcohol, police said.

An autopsy on Lauren Kagawa determined that she had multiple prescribed medications in her system at the time of her death. None of the drugs was illicit, police said.

The medications, coupled with alcohol, proved to be fatal, police said. Kaua'i police continue to investigate whether the overdose was accidental.

Initially, police said they suspected foul play in the death of Kagawa. Less than a month before her death, Kagawa had filed for a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, a former Kaua'i police officer.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Detective Joe Adric at 241-1868, police dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
