Rhythmic triple concerto opens Masterworks season

Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer will kick off the Honolulu Symphony Halekulani Masterworks season tonight with "The Melody of Rhythm — Triple Concerto for Banjo, Double Bass and Tabla."

Fleck on banjo, Meyer on double bass and Hussain on tabla will play Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 ("Italian") and other selections they will announce from the stage.

The trio will play at the Blaisdell Concert Hall tonight at 8 and tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $19 to $70 general, with a 20 percent discount for military and seniors, and student and children's tickets are always $10.
