Three men and three women from Waipahu were charged today in the Friday beating of a man who lived in the neighborhood and now is in critical condition.

Charged with second-degree attempted murder were Paulo Ioane, 20; Jeremiah Leota, 26; Jimmy Robinson, 19; Ana Lealiiee, 45; Eliza Lealiiee, 19; and Jamel Leota 25.
They were each being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center on $30,000 bail. Their preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Family members in the court room today asked the judge not to allow media coverage of the appearance for fear that there would be retaliation against the family in the neighborhood commonly called "the Pupus."
District Court Judge Faye Koyanagi said the threat of retaliation is just a rumor.
Police have said that the man who was beaten was punched, kicked, hit with bottles and struck three times by a Jeep after asking for a cigarette.
