VIDEOS CAPTURE RARE 'ELEPAIO
The 'elepaio (Chasiempis sandwichensis) is endemic to Hawai'i, lives on three islands and is known for a robust song that sounds like its name: ee-le-PAI-o.
Although this native member of the monarch flycatcher species is often the first to sing in the morning and the last to stop singing at night, this endangered bird is rarely seen. But you can see the 'elepaio on www.PacificNetwork.tv thanks to Eric Vanderwerf, who has devoted many years to studying this endangered native Hawaiian bird, and to Jan TenBruggencate, former Honolulu Advertiser science editor.
