Wise, Kaneko advance

Kaua'i's Lehua Wise shot a final-round 5-under-par 67 yesterday to finish third in the LPGA's first Sectional Qualifying Tournament at the Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs, Calif.

Wise, a 2003 Kaua'i High alum who has played on the Duramed Futures Tour since graduating from New Mexico State, finished with a 9-under 279 total to earn a spot in the LPGA's Final Qualifying Tournament, Dec. 2 to 6, at Daytona Beach, Fla.

Amateur Ayaka Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts graduate, also earned a berth in the final qualifier after finishing in a tie for 14th at 75—286.

Amanda Blumenhurst, of Scottsdale, Ariz., led the field of 30 qualifiers after shooting 70—272. Azahara Munoz of Spain finished second at 71—278.

The second Sectional Qualifying Tournament will be held in Venice, Fla., Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

UH ENDS SKID

Britta Bourne scored in the 83rd minute as the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team defeated host Cal State Bakersfield, 2-1, yesterday to snap a five-match losing streak.

Bourne's clinching goal came on a through ball by Chelsea Deptula to the far post.

Kristyn Shapka gave the Rainbow Wahine (2-6-1) a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, converting a long shot off an assist from Mari Punzal.

Kassi Massey scored in the 46th minute for the Roadrunners (4-6-0).

Hawai'i outshot Bakersfield, 12-6, including 7-3 on goal.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host Detroit Mercy Thursday and Saturday at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Both matches start at 7 p.m.

UH TICKETS ON SALE

Season tickets for the University of Hawai'i men's and women's basketball teams go on sale today.

Tickets may be purchased at the Stan Sheriff Center box office, by calling 944-2697, or online at http://www.HawaiiAthletics.com. The box office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Season ticket prices for the men's team are: $270 lower level (plus $100 premium seat contribution; single seats only), $200 adult upper level, $175 senior citizen (65-older) upper level, $89 student (age 4 to high school) upper level, and $59 UH student upper level.

Season ticket prices for the women's team are: $60 general admission adult and $50 general admission senior citizen. Admission is free for UH students and those ages 4 to high school.
