100 to 200 acres of brush burn in weekend wildfire

Advertiser Staff

Authorities said a wildfire burned 100 to 200 acres of brush on the south shore of Kaua'i Sunday before it was contained.

The Kaua'i Fire Department said in a news release that the fire started at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday near Maha'ulepu Beach on property owned by Grove Farms and was contained seven hours later.

No homes or buildings burned.

One firefighter was treated for dehydration at the scene, but there were no other injuries.

Six of the island's seven fire stations responded to the blaze along with a water-dropping helicopter and private agencies.
