Two boys struck by turning car in Waipahu

Advertiser Staff

Two young boys were injured this morning, one of them seriously, when they were struck by a car in Waipahu.

Witnesses said a driver making a turn at the corner of Waipahu and Mahoe streets apparently was blinded momentarily by the sun about 7:30 and did not see the boys, who appeared to be preschool-age, in the intersection.
One of the two boys was briefly pinned under the car until he was pulled free by his mother. The other boy was brushed by the turning car but was not pinned, and neither of the boys was run over by the car’s tires, witnesses said.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said both boys were taken to a trauma center in Honolulu for treatment. One was listed in stable condition and the other in serious.
