Terry a three-time winner

Advertiser Staff

W.F. Terry earned his triennial triumph in the Pigskin Picks contest.

Terry, 67, a former Army paratrooper who has lived in Hawai'i for more than 40 years, now has won the contest in 2003, 2006 and 2009.

Also, his lucky numbers seem to be 13-2. That's the record he won with in 2003 and this year.

"I didn't know until my girlfriend said it seems I win with 13-2," he said. "Even yesterday (Sunday, I thought) that 13-2 on upset weekend might have a chance. It was a tough week."

Terry correctly picked Punahou's upset of No. 1 Saint Louis, Oregon's victory over Utah, and picked all eight NFL games correctly, including the Jets over the Patriots, Texans over the Titans and 49ers over the Seahawks.

He said he didn't have a strategy, though he did submit about three or four ballots.

"That was the one that, (you) think what could happen. The upset ballot, something like that," he said.

Terry, who won via tiebreaker over an online player who also was 13-2, wins a trip for two to Las Vegas and $100 worth of Papa John's pizza.
