Honolulu gets top award for financial reporting

Advertiser Staff

The City and County of Honolulu has been awarded a prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association on the United States and Canada.

“Once again, our commitment to accurate, thorough and open accounting of public money has measured up to the high standards that taxpayers deserve,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said. “We’re very proud of our team at the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services for their care and diligence.”
The certificate, awarded for the city’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, is the association’s highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The annual report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, according to the Government Finance Officers Association.
