Lihue firefighters respond to rekindled brush fire

Advertiser Staff

Rescue specialists from the Lihu'e Fire Station spent the morning extinguishing hot spots that flared up at the scene of a brush fire that broke out yesterday on the makai side of the Lihu'e Airport runway.

The original fire was first reported around 4:15 p.m. yesterday and burned approximately 20 acres of state land before it was brought under control at 7:30 p.m.
Firefighters returned to the site at midnight after the fire rekindled. They spent two hours extinguishing the flare-up.
The fire rekindled again around 8 a.m.
No one has been injured in the fires, and no structures have been threatened.
