Hawaii men's volleyball assistant Kuo resigns

University of Hawai'i men's volleyball assistant coach Mason Kuo has resigned, the school announced yesterday.

Kuo, a McKinley High alum and ex-UH player, will move to Hilo with his daughter and wife, who was raised and still has family there.

Kuo joined new head coach Charlie Wade's staff after spending the past four years on former coach Mike Wilton's staff.

Wade said he hopes to have a replacement in the next month.

U.S. WOMEN REACH NORCECA SEMIS

The U.S. women's national team, with Hawai'i's Lindsey Berg and Heather Bown on the roster, beat Canada in four sets yesterday in the quarterfinals of the NORCECA Continental Championship at Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Jordan Larson had 15 points, including three blocks and one ace, and Nicole Fawcett also had 15 points in the Americans' 17-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-21 victory.

Bown had eight points, including three blocks.

The U.S. will play the Dominican Republic in today's semifinals. The Dominicans beat Puerto Rico in four sets yesterday.

GOLF

HAWAI'I-HILO MEN 14TH AT WASHINGTON

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo men's golf team is in 14th place after the first round of the St. Martin's University Invitational at Olympia, Wash.

The Vulcans' Neil Cabico is tied for 18th after a 2-over-par 74.

Ryan Felix is tied for 59th after a 79, Logan Goulding and Isaac Jaffurs shot 80s and are tied for 66th, and Christopher Armanini is tied for 72nd at 81.
