WAI'ANAE — In a display of offense matching the pregame fireworks show, No. 8 Leilehua cashed in two turnovers and two bad snaps in punt formation to down No. 7 Wai'anae, 47-28, last night in O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West football at Raymond Torii Field.

Andrew Manley passed for two touchdowns and 345 yards to lead the Mules (4-2 overall, 3-1 West) to their third consecutive conference win in spoiling Wai-'anae's homecoming.

His counterpart, Puletua Wilson, passed for 219 yards and three TDs for the Sea-riders (3-3, 3-1), who suffered their first setback of the conference season, leaving Mililani as the sole unbeaten in the Red West.

The explosive first half saw the teams combine for 49 points, each scoring in opposite fashion. The pass-oriented Mules scored three of their first four TDs on runs, while the run-favoring Seariders' three TDs were all on passes.

The difference in the first half was the Mules recycling a Wai'anae fumble with 2:08 left. A 54-yard scoring drive ended with Austin Schmidt's one-yard TD run with 1:07 left in the half to give the Mules a 28-21 lead.

The Seariders got as deep as the Mules' 20, but defensive lineman Charlie Tuaau sacked Wilson for a 16-yard loss to kill the threat and preserve the Mules' lead with eight seconds to the break.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Mules caught their second wind with 19 fourth-quarter points. Sly Izumigawa's 26-yard field goal jump-started the Mules early in the fourth — after an interception by Kasey Dukes at the Mules' 5 — to increase Leilehua's lead to 31-21.

But Guyson Amina returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a TD to pull the Seariders to 31-28.

The Mules responded quickly on Manley's 89-yard TD pass to C.J. Bailey, who broke a tackle at the Mules' 46 and sprinted to the end zone to make it 38-28.

A high snap in punt formation for the Seariders gave the Mules the ball at the Wai'anae 5, where they scored two plays later on a two-yard run by Schmidt to make it 45-28.

Later in the game, another high snap in punt formation went out of the end zone for a safety to make it 47-28.
