The Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame announced its 2009 inductees — Maiki Aiu Lake, Thomas Sylvester Kalama, Kui Lee, Dennis Kamakahi, and members of the Hui Ohana: Ledward Kaapana, Nedward Kaapana and the late Dennis Pavao — yesterday at its annual meeting.
Honorees will be inducted in a formal ceremony in May as part of its annual Lei of Stars concert.
“These are highly accomplished men and women who have had a great deal of influence on the development and recognition of Hawaiian music here in Hawaii and throughout the world,” said Kimo Stone, Hawaiian Hall of Fame president. “This class was selected for the way it has promoted and perpetuated Hawaii’s musical culture, and their overall influence on composition and performance.”
A member of the Hui Ohana, Ledward Kaapana said he was looking forward to his induction.
After today’s announcement a free concert was given featuring Kuuipo Kumukahi and the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame Serenaders and performances by Miss Keiki Hula Breeze Pavao, and Master Keiki Hula Keanu Cocket.
