Lawmakers to talk about violence at housing projects

Advertiser Staff

Two state House committees plan to meet today to discuss recent violent confrontations at the Kalihi Valley Homes public housing project.

A temporary but mandatory 10 p.m. curfew went into effect Thursday after a shooting there a week ago that left two people wounded, one of them seriously.

A similar curfew will soon start at another housing project, Kūhiō Park Terrace.

The curfews were instituted by the Hawai'i Public Housing Authority.

Authorities say rival gangs are causing some of the havoc.

The House committees on housing and human services will hold their joint hearing today at 5:45 p.m., at the Kalihi Valley Homes Community Hall.
