Tesoro refinery here may produce gasoline for Washington

Advertiser Staff

Gasoline and other petroleum products from Hawai'i's largest refinery may soon find their way to Washington state as its owner Tesoro Corp. seeks supplies in the Pacific Northwest.

Tesoro announced it will temporarily shut down crude processing operations at its Anacortes, Washington refinery where a chemical explosion killed five people on April 2. Bloomberg News reported the San Antonio-based company is unable to produce gasoline because of damage to a key production unit and left the refinery with an excess of output from other production units.

Tesoro said it will obtain supplies from its other refineries in Hawai'i, Alaska, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Salt Lake City to meet customer needs for refined products.

The Tesoro refinery at Campbell Industrial Park has been operating below capacity. The refinery has a 93,500 barrel a day capacity; during the fourth quarter its yield averaged 68,000.
