Man arrested for hitting police officer, damaging patrol car

Advertiser Staff

A 40-year-old Oahu man was arrested last night at a bar off Sand Island Access Road in Kalihi after he allegedly refused to leave the bar when asked to do so and hit a police officer who had been called to the bar to assist with removing him.

Police were told the man appeared to be intoxicated and that a woman working at the bar refused to serve him any more drinks about 10:15 p.m.

The woman said the man began to yell and swear at her and police were called.

When the officer arrived, the man still refused to leave and hit the officer with his hands, police said.

The man was arrested on suspicion refusing to leave a liquor establishment, a misdemeanor, as well as first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, a felony.

After the man was placed in the back seat of a police car, he rolled on his side and began to kick at the rear passenger window, damaging it, police said.

He was then arrested for third-degree criminal property damage.
