Army asks visiting drivers to register vehicles at bases

Advertiser Staff

The Army yesterday said it is beefing up security and asking that all drivers who live on, work on or frequently use Army bases to register their vehicles and display an official military decal on their vehicles by May 1.

Motorists and commercial businesses may register their vehicles at the following Vehicle Registration Offices:

Schofield Barracks' VRO (located in the Soldier Support Center) Building 750, Ayers Road. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fort Shafter Flats VRO, Building 1599. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 3 p.m.

People need to bring their driver's license, vehicle registration, safety inspection and proof of insurance. Motorcyclists must also show completion of a valid Department of Defense-approved safety course.

For more information, call the Schofield Barracks Provost Marshal's Office at 655-9496, the Fort Shafter Provost Marshal's Office at 438-2230 or USAG-HI's Directorate of Emergency Services at 656-5398.
