Make a one-of-a-kind present for mom at a Mother's Day Tillandsia Surprise workshop, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden, presented by the Board of Water Supply and Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden.

The tillandsia, or "air plant," requires no soil. Participants will also learn how to care for it. The cost, $15, includes a tillandsia and a decorative item; register by Thursday at 748-5363 or tours@hbws.org. Details: www.boardofwatersupply.com.

HAWAII CARES

YOUR VOTE CAN HELP TEACHERS WIN FREE MASSAGES AND MORE

Want to show Hawai'i's public school teachers you care? Vote for the Hawaii Cares (Communities in Action to Recognize Educators' Service) Project at the Pepsi Refresh Project website throughout May.

The Hawaii Cares Project is in the running for a $250,000 award from Pepsi that will provide public school teachers with vouchers they can redeem for free massages, chiropractic care, acupuncture or naturopathic medicine sessions — complementary therapies that are either not covered or only partially covered by insurance plans.

To vote, go to www.refresheverything.com/hawaiicares in May.
