Associated Press

HONOLULU More than 6,500 Hawaii school children have chosen the first volume of a suspense series for the 45th annual 2010 Nene Award.

The winner of the honor was "Found" by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The runner-up was "How to Steal a Dog" by Barbara O'Connor.

"Found" is the first volume of the suspense series, "The Missing." It begins with a plane unexpectedly landing at an airport carrying 36 passengers all infants and no flight crew.

The Nene Award is supported by the Hawaii State Public Library System and the state Department of Education.
