42,000 homes to receive recycling carts from city

Advertiser Staff

About 42,000 homes on O'ahu that have automated refuse collection will start receiving their recycling carts today in the city's fourth and final phase of its islandwide curbside recycling program.

The delivery process takes about 10 weeks, and the program is set to begin the week of May 3.

The Department of Environmental Service will deliver green and blue carts to homes from Waikele to Makakilo, Waipahu, 'Ewa Beach to West Loch, and from Honokai Hale to Mākua. Residents are asked to not use the carts until the May start date.

Green carts are for yard and plant waste. Blue carts are for mixed recyclables such as beverage containers, newspaper and cardboard.

The city said informational brochures will be attached to the outside of the blue carts. For more information, visit www.opala.org or call 768-3200.
