Kailua High alumnae mount fundraiser to aid school projects

Advertiser Staff

Students and faculty of Kailua High School will benefit from the first annual Kailua High School Dinner and Auction, 5:30 p.m. March 12 at Luana Hills Country Club.

The event will benefit the "principal's discretionary fund," a pool of money used for everything from leis for guest speakers to arrangements for school-community meetings. With recent reductions in state financing for public schools, the fund is expected to take on even more importance, used to purchase computers for teachers and student service coordinators, for bus transportation for band and Hawaiian Ensemble performances, for orientation portfolios for freshman and for student planners for grades 9 through 12.
The Friends of Kailua and Luana Hills Country Club are joint sponsors of the fundraiser, with many Kailua High alumnae involved. Chef Jay Matsukawa (Kailua '94) has designed a wide-ranging menu and radio announcer Crystal Akana (Kailua '01) will emcee introducing the halau of her classmates, kumu hula Hauoli Akaka and Kukahoomalu Souza.
Tickets: $45; call 952-6990. Information: luanahillshawaii.com.
