Servco to contact Prius, Lexus owners in Hawaii to schedule brake repairs
Servco Pacific Inc. will contact Toyota and Lexus customers to schedule repairs of the third-generation 2010 Prius and Lexus HS250, which are being recalled today to adjust the brake system, Servco said.
The recall is separate from the sticking gas pedal recall that has affected about 8,000 vehicles in Hawaiçi.
All Toyota dealers and service centers in the state have extended their hours to repair the vehicles, Servco said.
The recall of the 2010 Prius and Lexus HS250 models affect about 460 vehicles sold in Hawaiçi. The models are the third-generation 2010 Prius and Lexus HS250.
In Hawaii, 410 Prius and 53 Lexus HS250 were sold. Servco said unsold models currently on dealership lots will have the necessary software installed before sale.
There are no known reports of injury or accidents in Hawaiçi involving the 2010 Prius or HS250 vehicles due to the brake issue, Servco said.
Mark Fukunaga, chairman and CEO of Servco, said Toyota engineers have investigated complaints about the brakes and developed a software update for the 2010 Prius. Engineers are working on a separate software update for the Lexus HS250.
It is not a brake failure, he said in a statement, but drivers felt the brakes did not feel right, especially on rough or icy roads.

Servco is also monitoring national reports about possible steering problems in 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corollas. Federal officials have received 80 complaints nationally, but there is no recall.
Toyota today also announced a voluntary recall involving a limited number of 2010 four-cylinder Camry sedans because of a possible brake line interference. Servco said it has sold three affected sedans and those owners are being notified to bring their vehicles in for inspection.
