Punahou is in contention for its fifth straight girls team title at this week's Local Motion/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving State Championships at Kamehameha Schools-Hawai'i.

The trials portion starts tomorrow at Nae'ole Pool with diving at 9 a.m. and swimming starting at 3:30 p.m. Top performers will advance to Saturday's finals with diving starting at 8:30 a.m. and swimming at 1 p.m.

'Iolani is the defending boys team champion, but Punahou, which won state titles in 2007 and 2008, won this year's Interscholastic League of Honolulu title. The Punahou girls also won the ILH title.

The Kaiser girls and Mililani boys won the O'ahu Interscholastic Association titles last week. The Kapa'a girls and Waimea boys won the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation titles. In the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, the Kealakehe girls and Waiākea boys won the team titles. Baldwin won the boys and girls Maui Interscholastic League titles.

'Iolani's Kacy Johnson is seeded first in the boys 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle events. Waiākea's Rachel Shimizu is the top seed in the girls 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

The state championships were last held at Kamehameha-Hawai'i in 2006.
