The eighth-grader from Our Savior Lutheran School emerged as the champion speller in the Central District, edging out Brysen Pasion, an eighth-grader from Mililani Middle School.

Brysen incorrectly spelled "referendum" in the 15th round but will join Hannah at the state spelling bee.

In all, 22 students competed from the Central District.
