No. 1 UConn wins 64th in a row

STORRS, Conn. — Tina Charles had tears in her eyes as her name was placed on the Hall of Honor wall at Gampel Pavilion, then scored 25 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to lead top-ranked Connecticut over No. 25 St. John's, 66-52, yesterday.

It was the 64th consecutive win for UConn (24-0 overall, 11-0 Big East), and 19th in a row over teams ranked in the Top 25. The Huskies are six victories short of matching their NCAA and school record of 70 straight set between 2001 and 2003.

Nadirah McKenith had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead St. John's (20-5, 8-4).

Yvonne Turner had two late steals, helping the visiting Cornhuskers (23-0, 10-0 Big 12) overcome a six-point deficit in the final three minutes to beat the Tigers (11-13, 1-10).

NO. 6 XAVIER 74, DUQUESNE 55

Ta'Shia Phillips had 18 points and 14 rebounds to power the visiting Musketeers (20-3, 10-0 Atlantic-10) past the Dukes (18-7, 8-2) for their 11th straight victory.

NO. 20 IOWA STATE 69, NO. 11 BAYLOR 45

Freshman Amanda Zimmerman scored 15 points and the host Cyclones (19-4, 7-3 Big 12) hit 16 3-pointers in routing the Lady Bears (17-7, 4-6).

NO. 12 OKLAHOMA 65, COLORADO 55

Amanda Thompson scored 16 points and the host Sooners (17-6, 7-3 Big 12) raced to a 17-2 lead in beating the Buffaloes (12-11, 2-8).

NO. 13 TEXAS A&M 69, KANSAS STATE 63

Sydney Carter scored 24 points and the host Aggies (17-6, 5-5 Big 12) used a 7-0 run for a 63-52 lead to hold off the Wildcats (12-12, 4-6).

NO. 14 TEXAS 85, KANSAS 82

Ashleigh Fontenette scored eight of her 20 points in the two overtimes to help the visiting Longhorns (18-6, 7-3 Big 12) turn back the Jayhawks (14-9, 4-6).

TEXAS TECH 65, NO. 14 OKLAHOMA STATE 57

Jordan Barncastle scored 19 as the visiting Lady Raiders (15-9, 3-7 Big 12) routed the Cowgirls (18-6, 6-4).

NO. 22 GONZAGA 75, SAN DIEGO 61

Tiffanie Shives scored 20 points as the visiting Bulldogs (21-4, 10-0 West Coast Conference) beat the Toreros (14-11, 6-5) for their 12th straight win.

NO. 24 TCU 78, WYOMING 59

Helena Sverrisdottir scored 19 points and the Lady Frogs (19-5, 9-2 Mountain West) routed the Cowgirls (15-8, 6-5) for a school record 20th straight home victory.
