On O'ahu's North Shore, plant genetic company Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. has a site that specializes in plant breeding and seed multiplication for corn, soybeans and sunflowers. The 40 acres of sunflowers, which should soon be in bloom, will be used to make cooking oil.

The work the company does touches on the genetically modified organism debate. For more about the Island fields, including video, visit Edgy Lee's blog at www.LifeIsGood.honadvblogs.com or visit the Science Channel at www.science.pacificnetwork.tv/GreenPicks.
