UH diver triumphs

Stephanie De Lima won the platform diving event yesterday to help the Hawai'i women's team to a fifth-place standing after the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio.

De Lima scored 259.83 points, helping UH divers extend their hold on the event to six years in a row. Nevada's Aniesa Debaji placed second with 233.61.

UH has 70 points. Northern Arizona leads with 97.

GOLF

FUJIKAWA FIRES 71

Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa fired a 1-under-par 71 yesterday in the opening round of the Savannah Quarters Classic in Savannah, Ga.

He was tied for 48th — seven shots off the lead held by Taylor Hall — in the eGolf Professional Tour event.

Fujikawa shot nines of 35-36 and finished with four birdies and three bogeys.

WIE OPENS WITH 72

Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot even-par 72 today in the first round of the HSBC Champions LPGA event in Singapore.

Wie birdied Nos. 15 and 16 to move to 2-under, but then bogeyed the final two holes.

She was tied for 19th — four shots off the lead shared by Hee Young Park, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford and Lorena Ochoa.
