Beach volleyball: AVP announces deal with ABC, ESPN

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — The American pro beach volleyball tour has reached an agreement with ABC and ESPN to televise several events over the next two years.

The deal with the AVP include 13 telecasts this season, four of them on ABC, and begins with the season-opening event April 18 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Also included in the package is the Tour Championship in late August in Chicago.

The tour announced the deal Friday.

The AVP recently announced that former Olympic silver medalist Mike Dodd will be the new commissioner. Dodd won 75 titles during his 18-year pro career, worked as a broadcaster during the 2000 and '04 Olympics, and coached Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal at the Beijing Games.
