Advertiser Staff

Police have opened an attempted murder investigation after a worker at O'ahu Community Correctional Center was stabbed Wednesday morning.

Police were told the employee, a 52-year-old man, was working at his desk when a 45-year-old inmate approached from behind and suddenly stabbed the employee several times.

The inmate was subdued by the victim with the help of other witnesses.

The stabbing victim went to the hospital on his own and was determined to be in good condition, police said.

Police arrested the inmate about 1:45 p.m.
