High school bench press, bodybuilding contests set ASP World Tours take off in Australia
The eighth annual Hawai'i high school bench press contest will be held March 12 at Ward Warehouse.
The event also will feature the Mr. High School and Miss High School bodybuilding and physique championships.
The bench press contest will start at 5:30 p.m. and the bodybuilding and physique competition at about 7:30 p.m.
The bench press will feature lightweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions for males and females. Students who participate must check in with their school student identification and mandatory weigh-ins will be March 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The event is organized by Safe & Drug Free Schools and Olomana School.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE WILL HOLD REGISTRATION
Registration is being held for The Heart of a Champion Youth Basketball League, a competitive league designed to develop skills in high school boys and instill moral life values.
Boys entering the ninth grade or high school seniors entering their freshmen year in college in fall 2010 are eligible.
Most games will be played on Sundays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Mānoa. Cost is $40 per player.
CLINIC TO TRAIN OFFICIALS FOR AMATEUR BOXING
A boxing officials clinic for anyone interested in officiating amateur boxing as a judge, referee, timekeeper or glove table will be held March 6.
The event will be held at Hawaii Self Storage at 488 Kamokila Blvd. in Kapolei.
The cost is free if you are registered with USA-Boxing. The cost is $80, including the background check, to register with USA-Boxing.
SUNDAY DEADLINE FOR SAKAMOTO SCHOLARSHIP
Application deadline for the Mike Sakamoto Memorial Scholarship is Sunday.
Sakamoto, a local fishing icon best known as host/producer of the Fishing Tales television program, died last year.
The Mike Sakamoto Memorial Scholarship fund was developed by the Pacific Islands Fisheries Group (PIFG), a non-profit 501(c) 3.
The program will award students $10,000 in scholarship funds.
