Advertiser Staff

All westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway just after the North/South exit were closed this morning after a motorcycle fatality occurred at 4:21 a.m. today.

According to the Honolulu Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Division, a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling west on the H-1 Freeway when it rear-ended a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old man, was ejected from the motorcycle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as a Marine stationed at Camp Smith.
The driver of the car, a 31-year-old man from Kapolei, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
Police said speed was a factor in the collision. It is not known if drugs or alcohol were also involved.
